Study findings on sugar content of non-prepackaged food
Findings of a study on the sugar content of some non-prepackaged food in Hong Kong recently released by the CFS show that certain kinds of non-alcoholic beverages, even the less sweet versions, and dessert and bakery products contained high sugar content. The CFS has called on the trade to keep up their effort in reducing sugar content in food products and consumers are advised to choose products that have lower sugar content and are smaller in portion sizes.

Targeted Food Surveillance – Listeria Monocytogenes in Ready-to-eat Food
Listeria monocytogenes may continue to grow slowly at refrigerated temperatures as low as zero degree Celsius. Refrigerated ready-to-eat food with a long shelf life is a potential high-risk item for listeriosis as prolonged storage in a refrigerator (excluding freezer) may allow Listeria monocytogenes to have sufficient time to grow and thus increase the consumers' risk of contracting listeriosis. In view of this, the CFS, apart from continuing its targeted surveillance on Listeria monocytogenes in ready-to-eat food, has enhanced the sampling of high risk food by expanding the number and type of samples collected.
