Seasonal food surveillance project on mooncakes (first phase)
The CFS had collected traditional, snowy, ice-cream and other types of mooncakes from various retailers and food factories for chemical and microbiological tests. Test results for the samples in first phase were all satisfactory. People are advised to maintain a balanced diet and avoid excessive eating of mooncakes as they are mostly high in sugar and fat. Some types also contain relatively high levels of salt. They may refer to nutrition labels, particularly on the sugar, salt and fat contents, to make a healthier choice before purchase. The CFS will continue to conduct surveillance on mooncakes and the second phase results (including those on nutrition content analysis) will be released in a timely manner to ensure food safety.

Not to consume any food found abandoned on the street
Media reported that some people took home expired frozen ham and cheese abandoned at a refuse collection point in Yuen Long and on a roadside in Kwai Chung. From the food safety angle, any food found abandoned on the street should not be collected for consumption, even though its appearance may be normal.
